Abstract

An essential part of any manufacturing company's set of decisions is its distribution policy. This is very often referred to in the marketing literature as the “place” or “distribution mix” decision. This set of decisions might in turn, be divided into two subsets—channel decisions and physical distribution (logistics) decisions. Channel decisions deal with the choice of intermediaries between the producer of a good and the final user. Physical distribution decisions deal with the arrangements for “locating, stocking and shipping a company's goods to meet the service requirements of the marketplace”.

Abstract

Most of the existing literature on international physical distribution management comprises articles connected with specific problems or opportunities regarding international transportation, documentation, warehousing, packaging, parts, facilities, etc. The vast majority of these articles relate the experience of one particular company, and although they are highly informative, they leave the field of international physical distribution with a serious shortage of research and conceptualisation. Furthermore, organisational issues connected to control and authority over the physical flow of finished products in a multinational corporation have, so far, been neglected.

Abstract

Since the first Volume of this Bibliography there has been an explosion of literature in all the main areas of business. The researcher and librarian have to be able to uncover specific articles devoted to certain topics. This Bibliography is designed to help. Volume III, in addition to the annotated list of articles as the two previous volumes, contains further features to help the reader. Each entry within has been indexed according to the Fifth Edition of the SCIMP/SCAMP Thesaurus and thus provides a full subject index to facilitate rapid information retrieval. Each article has its own unique number and this is used in both the subject and author index. The first Volume of the Bibliography covered seven journals published by MCB University Press. This Volume now indexes 25 journals, indicating the greater depth, coverage and expansion of the subject areas concerned.

Abstract

In the last four years, since Volume I of this Bibliography first appeared, there has been an explosion of literature in all the main functional areas of business. This wealth of material poses problems for the researcher in management studies — and, of course, for the librarian: uncovering what has been written in any one area is not an easy task. This volume aims to help the librarian and the researcher overcome some of the immediate problems of identification of material. It is an annotated bibliography of management, drawing on the wide variety of literature produced by MCB University Press. Over the last four years, MCB University Press has produced an extensive range of books and serial publications covering most of the established and many of the developing areas of management. This volume, in conjunction with Volume I, provides a guide to all the material published so far.

Abstract

This empirical study examined U.S. advertising agencies' practices in the Asia Pacific Region to decide whether they were following Theodore Levitt's advice to promote products and services the same way everywhere. Information regarding environmental factors and advertising strategy were gathered from 200 Asia Pacific Region affiliates of U.S. advertising agencies in 11 countries. It was found that in general, agencies were neither standardising nor customising their sales platforms and creative contexts. Instead they tended to utilise the adaptative approach‐‐a strategy that is becoming viewed as the optimal approach by multinational ad agencies.

Abstract

The trajectory of François Perroux across the Vichy regime poses about all possible range of methodological issues to the historian of ideas: individual versus collective biography, ideational versus ideological reading, internal versus external analysis, etc. The chapter outlines key elements about Perroux’s trajectory showing the entanglements and boundaries of science and politics in the transition from democratic to authoritarian rule and vice versa. A particular emphasis on uncertainties and adjustments shows, against the tendency to a teleological explanation induced by a linear interpretation of his career, that different paths were considered by Perroux, but that his choices were nevertheless constrained by the forces of both the scientific and political fields.

Abstract

Until recent years in French libraries works emanating from or sponsored by a corporate body were considered anonymous and catalogued as such. And yet, how many librarians working in research libraries could have felt entirely satisfied with this method? Who has not heard readers' complaints and criticisms on the subject? How many of us have not attempted to remedy this by more or less empirical solutions? For works of this kind, indeed, the strict rule of entering anonymous works under the first word of the title often appeared absurd and liable to prevent the reader from finding them. How could a research worker find in the alphabetical author and title catalogue of a university library a given collective publication issued by a research laboratory well known to specialists, if the title‐page of the publication happened to begin with neither the name of the laboratory, nor with the title of the treatise or report in question?
